A frescoed Renaissance palace becomes a 30-room hotel
Palazzo Sogni opened on 1 October on Via de' Martelli, a short walk from the Duomo. The 16th-century building, once part of Palazzo Testa, has 30 rooms and suites with restored original frescoes, a secret garden with a nymphaeum traditionally attributed to Baccio Bandinelli, and a rooftop terrace facing Brunelleschi's dome.
Thirty keys, steps from the Duomo. The rare Florence stay that still feels like a private house.

Sleep inside the moated walls of a Renaissance villa near Venice
Castello di Roncade, near Treviso, was built between about 1514 and 1529 by Girolamo Giustinian and Agnesina Badoer, enclosed by moated, turreted walls designed to look like a medieval fortress. Owned by the Ciani Bassetti family since 1915, the estate makes wine and has rooms for guests.
Close to Venice, and a world away from its crowds. A castle you can actually stay in.

In China, hotel bookings are moving inside the chatbot
ByteDance's AI assistant Doubao now lets users choose and book hotels within the chat itself. Douyin Life Services reported hotel orders through Doubao up more than 56% month on month around China's October holiday. Since 20 August, completed bookings have carried a fee of about 12%.
Where China goes on booking habits, the rest of the world tends to follow. Expect to be asked to book by a chatbot soon.

Ask an AI where to stay, and it mostly quotes Tripadvisor or Google
A 19 October snapshot by search consultancy Qvery found ChatGPT cited Tripadvisor in 51.9% of US travel answers that cited a source, against 23.9% for Google AI Mode. Google AI Mode's hotel and restaurant answers mostly linked to Google's own listings.
AI travel advice is mostly recycled reviews. Which is exactly why first-hand knowledge still counts.
